Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
Chill the Dough:
- Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. This helps the cookies hold their shape when baked.
Roll and Cut:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ¼-inch thickness.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
Bake the Cookies:
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly soft; they will set as they cool.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorate (Optional):
- If desired, drizzle the cookies with melted chocolate or sprinkle with pink or red sprinkles for extra Valentine’s Day flair.
